Since being formed in 1968, Northallerton Male Voice Choir is proud to have required to call upon the services of only three Accompanists. Catherine Woods joined the Choir in 1998, replacing Mark Roebuck in 1999 as its permanent Accompanist.
Since joining us, Catherine has worked with all of the Choir's Musical Directors, from Bob Barratt to Andrea Rhodes and plays an essential role in the continued success of Northallerton Male Voice Choir.
Catherine was born in Northallerton and has lived in Romanby for most of her life. She started to play the piano at the age of 7 and attended private tuition with Northallerton's most celebrated Piano Teacher, Jean Pocock; indeed Catherine continues to visit Jean to fine tune her playing abilities.
Catherine studied a Degree in Information and Library Management at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle between 1995 and 1997, obtaining Chartered Status in the following year. She is now a Business Support Manager for Teesside University based Tees Valley Sport, which is one of 43 partnerships set up in England to promote physical activity amongst both children and adults. Catherine's role includes research and consultation with strategic partners.
Away from work, Catherine also enjoys supporting other local music groups with her piano playing. Catherine forms part of the Orchestra for Northallerton Amateur Variety Company, is the Accompanist for the Northallerton Musical Theatre Company and also accompanies singers at local music festivals. In her spare time, Catherine also teaches a small number of pupils to play the piano, thus passing on her skills to the next generation.
Northallerton Male Voice Choir continues to feel extremely privileged to have Catherine as its Accompanist and enjoys the excellence of her skills. We thank her for all of the time she spends playing piano for us, including the very many hours she spends practicing at home. We hope that our long association with Catherine will continue for very many years to come.
Thank you Catherine.
